Classification of Scratches

While an untrained observer might consider all auto body scratches to be the same, they're actually divided into three categories, classified by their severity. Superficial scratches are known as Level 1. The damage impacts only the clear coat that forms the outer layer of paint. It isn't very deep and may be nearly undetectable when wet. Moderate scratches are classified as Level 2. The damage extends through the clear layer into the color coat. The inclusion is deep enough to be noticeable even when wet. Deep scratches are categorized as Level 3. These go all the way down to the primer, the white or gray undercoating that's beneath the color. You'll be able to easily see this contrasting color. Finally, a severe scratch warrants a Level 4 designation. Bare body panel metal is visible, usually presenting as a silver color peering from beneath all paint layers.

Pathways to Repair

The methods we employ to repair your damaged vehicle depend upon the severity of the scratch. Our professionals can often use rubbing compound and polishing to erase the area if your car has a Level 1 including. Level 2 damage will require us to color match paint and do a bit more buffing and polishing. We'll touch up the primer for a Level 3 scratch before using the paint, sanding, and buffing process. Level 4 necessitates reaching the metal via sanding. We'll prime, paint, and clear coat the affected area. It's important that you have us professionally repair your automobile. Even small scratches can negatively impact the value of your car when you're ready to sell or trade, and they can make you feel self-conscious about your transportation. Worse, unaddressed deep scratching can lead to rust that could eventually compromise the structural integrity of impacted metal. Don't let surface damage make you love your car less, decrease monetary value, or lead to a worsening condition. Instead, bring your transportation to Brown Brothers Body Works for scratch repair.
